For farmers
Built by people who are still farming.
We are not a software company that decided agriculture looked interesting. Smart Agri Africa has been managing commercial production across Southern Africa for a decade — maize, groundnuts, potatoes, onions, citrus, canola and a wide vegetable basket — and FarmSwitch is the system we built because nothing on the market did the job on our own farms.
What actually goes wrong
Most lost yield is a logistics problem wearing an agronomy costume
Very little of what costs a season is a mystery of plant science. It is the fertiliser that came a week late, the sprayer that was on another farm, the block nobody walked until the damage was done, and the buyer who was found after harvest instead of before planting.
The input arrived seven days late
Nothing on the farm recovers those seven days. We synchronise every input to the approved crop programme and order against verified suppliers with delivery scheduled to the field, so the window is met rather than explained afterwards.
Nobody walked the block in time
Satellite imagery covers every field every five to seven days and flags the one that is sliding. You get told which block to walk, and why, while it still matters.
The contractor did not turn up in the window
Mechanisation and application are booked off the crop programme in advance, from vetted providers — and where the market cannot deliver, our own mechanisation hubs and drone services do the work.
The crop was sold after it was grown
We have been supplying South African retail and processing for ten years. Off-take is arranged ahead of planting, with structured contracts and traceability back to the block.
Bankability
The season is also your credit application
If you have ever been turned down because your financials were informal, or accepted at a rate that assumed the worst about you, this is the part that matters most.
Running the season on FarmSwitch produces something a lender can actually use: verified planted hectares, a task-completion record, live cost against budget, satellite-confirmed crop performance, and a yield history per field that builds season on season. For a grower without audited financial statements, that record starts to do the work an income statement would — and for one who has them, it makes the case considerably stronger.
- A verified production history. Independently confirmed rather than self-reported, which is what makes it worth something to a funder.
- A performance profile per field. Multi-season productivity zoning that shows which land performs and which does not.
- Evidence of execution. Every task GPS-located, timestamped and photo-evidenced — the discipline itself becomes a priceable variable.
- Inputs funded directly. Where finance is arranged through the platform, suppliers are paid direct — which lenders price better because the diversion risk is gone.
- A record you own. It follows you, and it compounds. Season three is worth more than season one.
What you get
The season, end to end
Know what your land can do
GPS mapping and digital boundaries for every field. Seven seasons of satellite history turned into productivity zones. Soil and terrain profile. Your equipment, storage and irrigation mapped. Then a crop programme and a cultivar choice built against that, with an agronomist in the room.
Run it without holding it all in your head
Tasks scheduled and closed out on a phone with photo evidence. Costs tracked against budget as they land, per field. Crop health checked from orbit every five to seven days. Alerts when something deviates. An agronomist dispatched when a notification is not enough.
Land it properly
Yield forecasting and harvest scheduling. Quality assurance against buyer specification. Packhouse, grading and cold-chain coordination. Off-take against contracts arranged before you planted, with traceability back to the block.
Whatever size you are
The same platform runs an 8,000-hectare grain portfolio and a developing enterprise on a few hundred hectares. That is deliberate — the aggregator model is how we bring commercial-standard planning, mechanisation and market access to growers who could not command it individually.
On a phone, in a field, on bad signal
The people using this are not at a desk. Task capture, scouting and evidence work from a mobile in the field, and the weekly digest comes by email or WhatsApp in plain language rather than as a dashboard you have to remember to open.
Proof · field trials
Up to 42% more yield than the conventional approach on the same ground. Peanut and carrot programmes, Concordia 22/23 against 23/24, and Rouxville. Field-trial results — your soil, season and management will differ, and we will say so plainly rather than promise you the top of the range.
Start with one block if you like
Plenty of growers begin with a single pivot or one problem field to see whether any of this is real. That is a perfectly sensible way to judge it.
